Lyrical Help Needed!

musicwriting

All right, faithful blogketeers, I need some inspiration. I’ve got a song due next week in my songwriting class. I wrote a song, but have no idea what the subject of the lyrics should be. To get some ideas I’m opening it up to you, loyal readers. What should this song (here’s the MP3) be about? What does it remind you of? (Yes, I know that it just ends abruptly; don’t point it out, it will be fixed.) Any ideas? First thing you think of? Anything?

Leave your comments! It’s due next Friday!

It strikes me as fitting for the end of a movie or series. The intro says “resolution of conflict” – We-Are-The-Champions style. Then the guitar part feels like a tragic hero – a hero who sacrificed and won the victory, but was unsatisfied afterward (like Frodo, for instance). But then there’s more upbeat victory stuff that seems like, “Yea, but look how good everything is,” and the hero feels better. And then the piano comes in solo playing one note at a time; that part sounds like hope to me, like he’s happy after all.

Or maybe it’s more like, the victory’s won, but the main hero is dead and ascending to heaven. So the minor-sounding chords are all mysterious as he’s floating up through translucent clouds on rays of light, but it’s really a happy song ’cause he’s being reunited with his loved ones. And they’re all happy to see him and he’s happy to see them, and everybody’s happy that the earth is peaceful!

This is clearly a song about Barack Obama.

The chorus shouts his name and each time refrains with something different like: “Ba-rack O-ba-ma! / Yes we can! We can!” or “He will change the world” or “He won’t eat your children”

The minor chords are when we hear about the evil days of the Bush regime when everything was bad because Bush hated the sunlight, puppies, and everything good in the world. But the might and valor of Obama shone through and won the day. As the song goes on we learn how Obama will give us all our hearts’ desires including free pancakes.

Either that or a lyrics about: “Oboes are Awesome!”

The feeling I got from it was similar to Shaun’s. It sounds to me like someone (or a group) standing at the precipice of something. They/he are about to face off with some sort of foe, then they start remembering the journey that took them there.

It reminds me of “House of the Rising Sun.”

It is kinda Rising Sun sounding.

It’s kinda November Rain meets Hotel California. Monster ballad sounding.

And, thanks to Nate, in my head the words to the chorus will be “Yes we can!” until you replace them. Please, please replace them.
